SolarDongle ("we", "us", "our") is operated by Multan Electronics. This policy explains what data the SolarDongle mobile app and the SolarDongle cloud service collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and how you can control it.

By installing the app or using node.solardongle.pk, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, do not install the app or use the service.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only the data that is required to operate the service:

  • Account information — email address and a password hash when you create an account. We never store your password in plain text.
  • Inverter telemetry — readings reported by the SolarDongle hardware paired to your account: solar power, load power, battery voltage and state of charge, grid voltage, frequency and current, inverter temperature, fault codes, operating mode and configuration.
  • Device identifiers — dongle serial key, firmware version and hardware fingerprint. These identify your hardware, not your person.
  • Network information — during initial dongle pairing the app reads nearby Wi-Fi network names (SSIDs) so you can select the one the dongle should join. We do not transmit this list off the device.
  • Usage signals — anonymised records of crashes and fatal errors so we can fix bugs. No personally identifying content of your screens is captured.

2. Android Permissions and Why We Use Them

The app declares only the permissions it actually needs. Each is used strictly for the purpose listed below; no permission is used for advertising or profiling.

  • INTERNET — upload telemetry and download dashboards from our server.
  • ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE, CHANGE_NETWORK_STATE, ACCESS_WIFI_STATE, CHANGE_WIFI_STATE — switch the phone between your home Wi-Fi and the dongle's temporary pairing Wi-Fi during first-time setup.
  • NEARBY_WIFI_DEVICES (Android 13+) — list nearby Wi-Fi networks during dongle pairing so you can pick the correct one. Used only inside the setup screen. The permission is declared with usesPermissionFlags="neverForLocation", meaning we explicitly tell Android we are not using it to derive your location.
  • ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION (Android 12 and older only) — required by Android itself to scan Wi-Fi networks on those versions. We do not record, store, or transmit your GPS location. It is requested only when you tap "Find my dongle" during pairing.

The app does not request access to your camera, microphone, contacts, calendar, photos, SMS, call logs, or any sensor outside the list above.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected data only to:

  • Show real-time and historical solar system performance.
  • Calculate energy savings, grid import and export totals, and battery health.
  • Send alerts when the inverter is offline, when a fault is raised, or when battery SoC falls below critical.
  • Deliver firmware updates to your SolarDongle hardware.
  • Provide customer support when you contact us.
  • Detect and fix bugs in the app and the service.

We do not profile you, we do not run advertising, and we do not make automated decisions with legal effect based on your data.

4. Data Storage, Retention and Security

Telemetry and account data are stored on secure cloud servers that we operate. All traffic between the app, the dongle and the server uses TLS 1.2+ encryption. Server access is restricted to authorised administrators and all administrative actions are logged.

Retention:

  • Raw per-second telemetry: up to 15 days.
  • Hourly and daily aggregated telemetry: up to 12 months.
  • Account record, device binding and device settings: for the lifetime of your account.

When you delete your account, all account data and associated telemetry are removed within 30 days.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your telemetry with third parties for marketing, analytics, advertising, or model training.

We may share data only when:

  • You explicitly ask us to (for example, inviting your installer to view your site).
  • A court order, subpoena, or other valid legal process in Pakistan compels disclosure.
  • We need to protect the rights, property or safety of our users or the public.

We do not integrate third-party advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, or social-media tracking pixels in the mobile app.

6. Your Rights and Choices

You may, at any time:

  • Access the data we hold about you.
  • Export your telemetry history as CSV.
  • Correct inaccurate account information.
  • Delete your account along with all associated telemetry.
  • Withdraw consent to future optional communications.

7. How to Delete Your Account and Data

Per Google Play policy, account and data deletion is available without having to reinstall or reopen the app. To request deletion:

  1. Email privacy@solardongle.pk from the email address associated with your account, with the subject line "Delete my account".
  2. We will verify the request and delete the account, bound device records, and all personal data within 30 days. Backup copies are purged within 60 days.
  3. Some records may be retained where the law requires it (for example, invoicing for hardware sold to you). These are kept only as long as the law requires and are never used for any other purpose.

You can also remove individual devices from your account at any time from the app's Settings screen. Removing a device detaches it from your account immediately.

8. Children's Privacy

SolarDongle is a utility product for solar-system owners and installers. It is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

9. International Transfers

SolarDongle is operated from Pakistan. If you use the service from another country, your data is transferred to and processed on servers located in our cloud provider's region. We apply the same protections regardless of where you access the service from.

10. Cookies and Analytics on the Website

The SolarDongle website uses only the minimal cookies required for the super-admin login session. No third-party tracking cookies, no ad cookies, no cross-site trackers. The mobile app does not use cookies.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy when the service changes. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page always reflects the current version. Material changes will be announced in-app and by email to registered users at least 14 days before taking effect.
